Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word 'yuj' meaning 'unity'. The beginning of yoga, which is thought to be as old as human history, is uncertain. Its origins date back at least five thousand years. India is considered the birthplace of Yoga. I don't think there's a chance that something so deep-rooted wouldn't be useful.

B.C. Some yoga movements drawn on clay tablets dating back to 3000 support the argument that India was the starting point. The word yoga, which is thought to be as old as human history, is derived from the Sanskrit word 'yuji' meaning 'unity' and has taken its present form. Yogi means a person who practices yoga. The main purpose underlying yoga is to harmonize the body and mind at the same time, and to transform it into a state of awareness.
