Fuchsia is an open source operating system currently developed by Google. The project was recognized by the public when it appeared in August 2016 as a self-hosted git without any official announcement. In the source documentation the reason behind the name is described as "Pink + Purple = Fuchsia (a new Operating System)". Unlike operating systems like Chrome OS and Android, which are based on the Linux kernel, which were previously developed by Google, Fuchsia is based on a new microkernel called Zircon, which bears the mineral name.
