Burgos Cathedral (Spanish: Catedral de Burgos, officially known as Santa Iglesia Basílica Catedral Metropolitana de Santa María de Burgos), a Gothic-style cathedral in the city of Burgos in Castile and Leon, Spain. The construction of the cathedral began in 1221 in reference to the Virgin Mary, and underwent many renovations in the 15th and 16th centuries, and was completed in 1567. Known for its size and original architecture, Burgos Cathedral was removed from the main structure of the cathedral at the beginning of the 20th century, when the archbishop's palace and the upper floor of the monastery were not fully connected to the cathedral.
