It doesn't make sense to ask for salt to be considered an insult. After all, some people eat saltier than others, what's wrong with that? Of course, there is no logic in such things. So many countries have weird and ridiculous customs. Asking them doesn't change anything. I hope that if I go to Egypt, I will not do anything that they will perceive as an insult.

If you are a guest in a house in Egypt, it can be understood differently if you ask for salt during the meal. If you like the salt shaker, adding more salt to your food is an insult to the Egyptians. I think it might be a nicer behavior for them to show that the food is perfect. I hope one day if we go to Egypt we will not forget and we will not ask for salt.
